This policy outlines the commitment of Oak Tree Surgery to providing a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for patients during consultations, examinations, and procedures. It ensures that all patients have access to a chaperone if required.

Availability of Chaperones

At Oak Tree Surgery, we recognise the importance of patient dignity, privacy, and security during medical appointments. As part of our commitment to patient care, we offer the option of a chaperone for any intimate examination or procedure.

We have both male and female chaperones available upon request. If you would like a chaperone to be present during your appointment, please inform a member of staff at the time of booking or upon arrival.

Role of a Chaperone

A chaperone is a trained member of our staff who provides support, reassurance, and protection to both patients and healthcare professionals during medical examinations. Their role includes:

  • Ensuring the patient's comfort and dignity.

  • Providing reassurance and emotional support.

  • Acting as a witness to the conduct of the examination.

  • Assisting in the procedure when required.

Requesting a Chaperone

Patients may request a chaperone at any time before or during their appointment. Where possible, we will provide a chaperone of the gender requested. If a suitable chaperone is not immediately available, the appointment may be rescheduled at the patient’s discretion.

Confidentiality and Respect

All chaperones are trained to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism. If you have any concerns about your consultation, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff.
